Sarah, Abraham's wife, dies before the promise of the land is fulfilled. Abraham must understand that the promises of God extend beyond death, and they do not come without suffering. Abraham trust that the land promise will be fulfilled and buys a family burial ground, signifying that Canaan is now his ancestral homeland.
