Jacob is disciplined by God's providence when he is forced to take some of his own medicine. Just like he deceived Esau to gain the blessing, he is now deceived by Laban. He is shown the consequences of sin and his new family faced with many of the same problems that plagued his old family. God doesn't let his people continue in sin without sanctification.
