John 9:13-42 Growing in Sight...Or Blindness

The man who had been healed of his blindness is interrogated about the miracle and about Jesus. We are told at the end of this chapter that what we are seeing is a man growing more and more into the light, and another group is growing deeper and deeper into blindness. The man, although not knowing everything about Jesus, holds to his confession that he once was blind but now can see.

John 9:1-12 The Miracle of God's Work

Jesus heals a man who is born blind. He tells his disciples that the reason the man is blind is so that "the works of God" would be displayed in him. Then he tells his disciples, "We must work the works of God while there is time." - He demonstrates the priority and urgency of the disciples in making disciples, weeping with those who weep, and being instruments by which God changes lives

John 8:48-59 Resting In The "I Am"

Jesus concludes his conversation with the religious leaders by explicitly revealing His identity to them and even now, giving them the invitation of promise. In this section, the believer finds great assurance that Jesus is able to fulfill His promise and there is nothing that can cause His promise to fail.

John 8:37-47 A Spiritual Paternity Test

Jesus shows his opponents that they are neither Abraham's children, nor are they God's. To do so He gives them evidence of what God does in His children. They bear fruit, they love Jesus, and they respond to God's Word.

John 8:30-36 Examining True Freedom

Jesus shows the evidence which is present in the life of one who has been made His disciple. They abide in His word and they have been freed from the slavery to sin. What does this look like? How do I know that I am one of these disciples?

John 8:21-29 The Heart Of God's Message

Jesus gives both the warning and the invitation of the gospel to the religious leaders who are questioning Him. Those who do not know Christ will be separated from God for eternity. John 8:12-20 What If Jesus Really Is Who He Says?

Jesus' claim to be the light of the world is disputed by the Pharisees. Jesus demonstrates His claim by showing the truth of His testimony. The Pharisees reject His claim, but as believers today, how should we walk in our daily life if we truly believe that Jesus' claim is true?

John 8:1-11 Where Justice and Mercy Meet

What if we planned to show a recording of all your thoughts, words, and actions this week? Would you be excited about coming to church? Would you be terrified of what we would all see? Don’t worry, we aren’t doing that. But in John 8:1-11, we are going to see the law brought to bear on us all...publicly. Throughout church history, the story of the woman caught in adultery has captivated the heart of the church. It is a perfect picture of the law’s condemnation and the gospel’s gift of grace. Here we see both those who turn away from the conviction of God and those who are crushed by it. But only one in this story hears the words that are the greatest joy of the believer’s heart..."neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more."

John 7:40-52 Why We Do What We Do

In John 7:40-52, we see the effect of Jesus’ gospel invitation in the temple. It causes division, ridicule, and persecution just as it does today. If that is so, why do we do what we do? Why don’t we just be quiet and lay low with this offensive message? Because the gospel also has another effect. Romans 1 tells us that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation. In the midst of the darkness of the Sanhedrin, among those who are the chiefest of Jesus’ wicked enemies, the gospel is doing a work in a man’s heart. That is why we speak this gospel and live in light of its truth - because the gospel changes hearts, even those hearts we may think are beyond reach.

John 7:25-39 Rivers of Living Water For The Thirsty

Jesus continues to teach in the Temple. He disputes with the people showing that man's knowledge cannot give a relationship with God. Jesus also demonstrates that the Father's truth cannot be silenced as they attempt to seize Jesus prematurely. And yet, even with all the opposition, Jesus still gives the invitation and promise that the thirsty can come to him and drink. He will be the satisfaction for the thirsty soul.

John 7:14-24 The Authority of Jesus

Jesus shows the source of His authority and then exercises that authority in exposing the sin in the hearts of the people. Jesus illustrates that those who will to do God's will are those who see Jesus for who He is.

John 7:1-14 The Life Surrendered To God's Will

Jesus exemplifies the life perfectly submitted to the will of the Father. He is faithful despite the presuure of the world, or the risk to himself. He exemplifies what we are called to be, but more than that He is faithful for us as He takes our sin upon the criss and gives us His life of righteousness.

John 6:60-71 Responding To God's Word

Jesus has finished the bread of life discourse. The people find His teaching too hard to accept. And Jesus agrees, because it is only by the Spirit that life comes, but the instrument the Spirit uses is the Word. And that Word demands a response.

John 6:35-47 A Supernatural And Secure Salvation

Jesus explains how He is the only bread that can endure. He shows that the salvation that He offers the crowd is eternal because it is the will of the Father that all those given to the Son will be raised on the last day. He will lose none of them. He also shows that salvation is a supernatural work of God in the heart.
